WHAT IS THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING?
It’s an agreement between the Club and the Canaries Trust which ensures that the Club must notify the Trust in advance of any significant changes to give us the chance to discuss them before they become public and commits them to ensuring that we have access to senior officials on a regular basis to discuss issues relevant to fans.
HOW IMPORTANT IS THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING TO THE TRUST?
Extremely important. We became only the second British trust after Fulham to have such an agreement and have since been involved in advising other Trusts how to negotiate such agreements. This, along with our involvement in other areas of common interest, such as the safe standing debate, has meant that Norwich City is now seen as a very progressive Club in terms of fan engagement.
WHAT IS THE TRUSTS RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THE SUCCESS OF THE MOU?
We must offer affordable and open membership to any supporter of Norwich City, and we also have to ensure that we are properly registered with the Financial Conduct Authority and that our accounts are submitted on time each year.
We must be open to co-opting other supporter groups who share our aspirations onto the Trust board, and currently Forces2Canaries, Proud Canaries and Barclay End Norwich have permanent places on our board.
We undertake to consult and communicate with our membership on a regular basis and to respect other supporter groups and to respect the right to confidentiality of members and Club staff in their dealings with us.
WHAT RESPONSIBILITY DO THE CLUB HAVE TO ENSURE THE SUCCESS OF THE MOU?
To give the Trust adequate notice of any planned change of ownership.
To provide information on the Club’s finances so that the Trust can assess how the Club is being managed financially.
To inform the Trust of any plans to move to a new ground or any other changes that could affect the culture of the Club.
To meet regularly with the Trust to discuss any relevant issues affecting supporters.
To not exclude any supporter from Carrow Road without good reason.
To ensure that Club officials attending meetings with the Trust have the knowledge and/or decision-making capabilities to deal effectively with the issues being discussed.
WHAT MUST BOTH PARTIES DO TO ENSURE THE SUCCESS OF MOU?
Ensure that all meetings are structured and that there is an agreed agenda in place in good time before each meeting.
The Trust must publish minutes of meetings in a form that both parties have checked and approved.
All confidential information is treated with the care that is required under the terms of the Memorandum and the requirements of common law.
